We started as a small mother-daughter effort. The One Bite at a Time Organization started as a way to help others during our time of grief and loss. Jack, was a man who, every day, tried to leave this place better than he found it. He touched lives and hearts wherever he went. We wanted to continue something good in his memory.
As we talked with more people about our loss, more people shared their stories with us. So, we bought a small batch of toy elephants. We created a letter. And everywhere we went, we carried an elephant and a letter with us. And everywhere we went, we met people facing their own battle with cancer. So, we gave them an elephant. And the effort grew. People appreciated the elephants. They appreciated knowing that someone cared about them and was cheering for them. They appreciated knowing that they weren't alone.
We aim to provide an inspirational elephant and letter to support every person fighting cancer who contacts us or whom we meet or hear about in our daily lives. It's a small gesture that we've found has had a very positive impact. As much as we wish, we aren't able cure cancer on our own. But, perhaps, we can make it even just a little bit less frightening for someone... every minute... every moment... one bite at a time.
